Destination weddings are very popular at this time. A wedding of this kind is definitely a once in a lifetime experience. There are many things to consider in having the wedding of your dreams in an exotic location.
The first choice is the location for your wedding. Be sure to do your research before choosing a place. If neither of you have ever been to this location before, be aware that sometimes things do not look in real life as they do in pictures.
Once you've chosen the location, you need to find out what activities and amenities will be available for the wedding party and the guests. Find out what the local laws and requirements are for your destination wedding. Determine how much you might save by choosing the off-peak season for your wedding. Most of this information can be found at your destination's local board of tourism.
Choose the date for your destination wedding. Then check with family and close friends to see if they can come on that date. If your wedding is far away, you can't expect all, or even most, of your guest to come. Some will not be able to take off work, and some, quite honestly, won't be able to afford it. However, if you choose a wonderful, exotic tropical locale, some may just be willing to plan a vacation around your wedding!
Be sure that you know the legal requirements for a marriage in the location you are planning to have your wedding. If your wedding is to be in the U. S. check with local authorities for a list of documents needed for a license. If your wedding will be in a foreign country, it is important to check with that country's consulate to find out what will be required.
Make sure you know what documents you will need to legally travel to your wedding destination and to return to the U. S. Check with the U.S. State Department for information about passports, visas, vaccinations, and travel advisories.
Many resorts or hotels offer package deals for weddings. These "deals" are usually coordinated by an on site professional. A package may range from a bridal bouquet and officiant all the way to music, flowers, photography, cake, food, champagne, limo service and everything else needed for the wedding day.
When planning a wedding in an exotic location, it is a very good idea to use the resort's wedding planner or hire a professional wedding consultant from the area. They are familiar with the vendors in the area and can match you up with the most reliable ones. Also, they can often get better values and lower prices for you.
Know the Cost
Be sure you have taken all expenses such as airfare and lodging into consideration and are able to furnish those estimated costs to your friends and family. And be sure to tell those you wish to participate in your wedding what the cost will be to them--and what costs you can and cannot cover. Tell them this before you ask them to commit to being in your wedding.
